This is the Porsche 919 Hybrid. It’s the vehicle that brought Porsche back to the top level of endurance racing in 2014 and the chariot which delivered Porsche a stunning overall win at the recent 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Except when we say “this,” we don’t actually mean this one.
Rather, this is a full-scale model replica of the racecar, complete with aerodynamic elements and functioning headlights, but no engine or drivetrain. It was recently offered up for charity auction by Porsche Asia Pacific. When the gavel fell it took home a sizable $106,100.
Then again, it is quite a rare piece of history. According to Porsche, this 919 Hybrid model is one of only 13 replicas in the world in private ownership. It comes dressed in the 2014 white racing livery, weighing in at around 1,100 pounds, and also sports signatures from all six of the 2014 Porsche 919 Le Mans drivers. The winning bidder also will receive first-class tickets to Singapore, a two-night stay in a 5-star hotel, and exclusive access to a Porsche event.
As for the real car, the Porsche 919 Hybrid competes in the Le Mans prototype class and muscles over 500 horsepower from its turbocharged 2.0-liter V4 engine and an additional 400 plus horsepower from a front-mounted electric motor and hybrid system. No wonder it took home first, second, and fifth at Le Mans this year.
All proceeds from the sale were donated to Singapore’s SportCares Foundation, a charity aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged children, at-risk youth, the elderly, and disabled.
