2016 Ford Torino Shelby GT Could Be The Next Chevy SS Slayer
As retro cars continue to dominate our attention, with everything from new Mustangs, Camaros, and Chargers to Beetles and Fiat 500s in new car dealerships, it’s time to bring back Ford’s intermediate class competitor to the Chevelle – the Ford Torino.
A 2016 Torino should look like this, in our opinion, and offer more than one powerplant. The Ford V-6 EcoBoost should be one option but at the top of the line should be a Shelby version, named the Ford Torino King Cobra, after the prototypes that Ford built for NASCAR racing that never went into production.
With the name Shelby King Cobra, there’s really just one choice of motors: the 5.8 L supercharged V-8 for the 2015 Ford Shelby GT500.
In addition to the very popular two-door coupe that sold strongly against the Chevelle in the late seventies and early eighties, we’d suggest trim and performance packages that align more directly with the Chevy SS.
One more suggestion: Create a Starsky & Hutch commemorative package (its 40th anniversary having just passed) complete with a giant lightening bolt side graphic.
